PROJECT LOCATION AND SUMMARY
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders India (DWBI) is humanitarian medical aid organization working in more than 70 countries worldwide. Médecins Sans Frontiers is neutral, impartial, independent, and not linked to any political party or governmental body. Our teams provide emergency medical assistance to people in need, irrespective of their nationality, race or religion. In 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as recognition for its medical work in several continents.
Doctors without Borders India is in the process of setting up a short term response in southern Mizoram state to assist the local communities with mobile medical clinics, mental health support, health promotion, water and sanitation support and NFI distributions. The response aims at supporting local populations as well as those who have been temporarily displaced to India following the conflict in Chin State, Myanmar.
Purpose of Post:
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing, health care ,health promotion, in refugee camps in Saiha district and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action. In referral path way of the project.
Providing nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
Functional and Hierarchical Lines:
Hierarchically and functionally accountable to the Nursing Activities Manager (NAM).
GENERAL
Location : Mizoram(Aizawl).
Number of positions available:1.
Availability: 1 year to be extended depending on the intervention.
Starting date : Immediate.

Salary: Part Time(50% of 36,540/-) INR gross/ month (NON-NEGOTIABLE) and secondary benefits (pro rata) as per policies:

Main responsibilities and tasks
- Assist and monitor the flow of referrals from Lawngtlai, Siaha and Champhai District Hospitals or direct cross border referrals to the designated Tertiary care Hospitals in Aizawl
- Follow up closely the whole stay of the pts from the admission process, investigations, procedures, ward care including meals in the hospital, till the discharge of the pts
- Share with NAM /PMR the admission diagnosis, complications and issues during hospital stay and the final diagnosis.
- Update and report immediately if any new pts admitted, status of the referred patients, their major investigations, procedures taking place or if any other problems encountered, to the NAM/PMR
- Ensure accommodation and food for patient is well arranged and liaise with the admin fin department of the hospital for related issues.
- Report immediately if pts condition is deteriorating or on the death of any pts
- Facilitate/ arrange dead body transport according to the required destination to the camps/settlement in India.
- Create a weekly and monthly report of the referral patients
- Ensure up to date Referral logbook on a daily/weekly basis including patient condition and planned procedures
- Communicate with Nursing Activity Manager on routine basis.
- Accompany / guide patients and caretakers being referred to the referral hospital, to ensure that they receive the treatment according to the doctor’s management plans
- Assure confidentiality for all referred patients.
- Liaise between MSF HR Fin Department and hospital financial department
- Follow-up and request the invoices from the hospital and facilitate the payment process of the pts
- Ensure that the patient understands the discharge and follow ups after discharge and has the discharged paper with final diagnosis and the necessary medicines for treatment.
- Facilitate the transport and home journey for the discharged patient and caretaker.
- Participating of medical meeting and online teams
- Facilitate and support pts and work with the hospital staff for the blood transfusion as needed in line with the Hospital policy.
- Help in transportation of vaccination and other cold chain items from capital Delhi through Aizawl to Field project (Champhai).
- Facilitate MSF staff for vaccinations or medevac as required
- Remain flexible in taking up other extended duties.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education :
- Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma ( BSc nursing /GNM)
- Desirable Bachelor in Science of Nursing
Experience :
- Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
- Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.
Languages :
Local language essential Mission language desirable.
