Background
Doctors Without Borders India (DWBI)/Médecins Sans Frontières provides medical assistance during natural and manmade
disasters through establishment of healthcare centres, implementing medical programs for critical illnesses on its own or with
partners, working for creating medical awareness and capacity building and carry out/sponsor research to provide strategic
input on relevant medical treatment options in India.
DWBI offers assistance to people in need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.


GENERAL:
Location: Zokhawthar, Champhai (Mizoram)
Number of positions available: 1 (full-time position)
Availability: 12 months, with possible extension
Starting date: ASAP

Main purpose of Post:
Perform counseling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health DWBI protocols and
procedures, in order to improve their pychosocial condition.
Functional and Hierarchical Lines:
The position is hierarchically and functionally answerable to Mental Health Activity Manager respectively.


Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
• Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients.
• Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational
sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
• Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in order to propose the best support
available.
• Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it,
• Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other
counselors, preserving confidentiality.
• Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
• Take active part in trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for
DWBI staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.
• Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with supervisor.


Some other Accountabilities 
• Conduct assessment, counselling, PFA, psychoeducation, awareness and other mental health activities for DWBI
Zokhawthar clinic patients in Mizoram.
• Conduct Group sessions for patients on General Mental health awareness in the waiting area of DWBI clinic and specific
group session(level I to III) as per the plan.
• Provide individual counselling sessions to patients of various age groups using DWBI-validated tools.
• Provide PSEC (patient support education and counselling) including HIV post-test counselling with the medical team
to patients with chronic and infectious diseases visiting the DWBI clinic
• Identify mental health patients (of different age groups) during group activities and make referrals to psychologists for
further care and support.
• Provide appointments to patients/beneficiaries for follow-up sessions and trace the patient in case the patient doesn’t
show up.
• Prepare and maintain reporting (patient) files for each session/activity and update the same on time
• Keep files and other materials in safe custody to preserve the confidentiality of the patients.
• Take part in developing and preparing mental health awareness material and provide MH awareness to the health
workers in the district (when needed).
• Take part in organising and providing mental health training to medical/paramedical and other health workers and
field workers from MoH and stakeholders (when needed).
• Keep the line manager updated about job-related activities and/or any problem faced in the field/workstation.
• Prepare the clinical data regularly and share it with the line manager on time.
• Might be included with an assessment team for need assessment of a population.
• To be flexible in work and assist in other activities in the project whenever required.


Requirements:
Education : • Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma.
Experience : • 1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO desirable.
Languages :  • Local and mission language are essential.
