Advertisement for appointment of a Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Applications are invited from highly motivated eligible candidates for one (01) temporary position of Junior Research Fellow under Major Research and Development Project (MRDP) entitled “Long-term ecological monitoring of forest plots in Mizoram, Northeast India” funded by Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India under the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) under Prof. Shri Kant Tripathi, Principal Investigator, Department of Forestry, Mizoram University. Appointment will be made initially for a period of one (01) year, which may be extended further upon satisfactory performance of the incumbent. The positions are co-terminus with the project or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Maximum duration of project is three (03) years. 

Background of the project
Long term ecological research (LTER) stations will be established in Mizoram to collect ecological information on long-term changes in climate, vegetation dynamics including phenological observations, forest disturbance; comparison of community, population, and plant architectural responses to human and natural disturbance; organic matter accumulation, decomposition and mineralization; element cycling, fine root dynamics and forest microbiology. Project aims to fill the gap of knowledge about impact of climate change on forest vegetation and society. It will help in developing climate resilient forest management plans and in solving the regional problem of forest degradation and its potential to serve the society on sustained basis for longer time. Further, the data will be useful in ecological restoration of disturb sites. 

Junior Research Fellow (Position-01)
Essential qualification : M.Sc./M.Tech with a minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent CGPA in Forestry/Environmental Science/ Botany/ Life science /Ecology or any other relevant disciplines with NET/GATE.
Desirable : Energetic person with good analytical skills and capable of working both independently and as part of a team in the field as well as in the laboratory are encouraged to apply. Field duties involve long term stay in the field for data collection and recording of ecological events during active growth period. 

Fellowship : Rs.31, 000/- (Rupees thirty-one thousand) per month for first and second year and Rs. 35,000 (Rupees Thirty-five thousand) for third year. In addition, 8% HRA will be admissible as per Govt. of India rules, if accommodation is not provided by the University.
Age limit: The upper age of the candidates is 28 years at the time of application. The upper age limit may be relaxed as per Government of India rules.
